When you trust, who (or what) are you trusting?
When you trust your Knowing, who are you trusting?
When you trust the Universe, who are you trusting?
As I shared last week, this painting has been teaching me about trust. And it profoundly shifted my perspective on why we can soften into trust, always—and why we don’t.
Your soul will not harm you. Ever.
I cannot convey the impact of that truth landing.

Really take that in.
Can you feel the shift?
We’re encouraged to trust all the time, but we’re never really taught how. In practice, it gets reduced to a thought exercise: I’m going to trust. I need to trust. OMG, I have so much freaking anxiety about this! . . . Trust. I need to trust. I can trust.
In actuality, it feels like we’re staring down into the photo above.
That’s not trust. It’s a dance with anxiety. (Which is OK too, but it’s not trust. And I’m saying this after 18 years of spiritual practice.)
Asking ourselves to trust the Universe creates a gap that’s challenging to navigate. It’s so vast, so impersonal that anxiety creeps in to our relationship with trust. (And that, I realized with surprise, is what by default I ask myself to do. Can you relate?)
Trust is about intimacy. Your soul, or your Self, is that intimacy. Through it, you are in an intimate relationship with the Divine. Know it within you and without—with each breath.
Your soul will not harm you. It will not cause you harm, and it will not send you into harm. It IS you.
It is the one thing you can count on.
And it is what we doubt the most.

I get asked all the time: How do I know that it is my soul talking?
Practice.
Practice listening. Practice discernment.
Get to know your soul’s voice—in images, feelings, sensations, words.
Get to know also the voice of fear, of anxiety, shame, pride.
Get curious about them all—and what they have to teach you. Underneath it all is the fabric of your soul.
